Zephyrus is a Tulsa-area youth arts organization specializing in performing arts. We are currently developing programs for drum corps, marching band, concert band, dance, color guard, and more! Also see our "about us" page.
IS ZEPHYRUS STARTING A DRUM & BUGLE CORPS?
Yes. We are working directly with SoundSport (a program of Drum Corps International) to grow Oklahoma's own competitive drum corps. Audition to be in the corps for 2020!
WHEN WILL ZEPHYRUS APPLY FOR OPEN CLASS MEMBERSHIP?
Trick question. Zephyrus is already coordinating with DCI regarding our ambition to move into Open Class, however this process takes time and has little to do with an application. We cannot yet estimate when both Zephyrus Arts Institute and Drum Corps International will agree it’s time to move up, but it is our mission to get there within the next few years.
WILL ZEPHYRUS DRUM & BUGLE CORPS DO A “TOUR” IN 2020?
Yes, but a very small one. As we start small and build a strong foundation, the drum corps experience will at first be a fraction of both the cost and normal time commitment of a competitive drum corps in DCI. This year we expect to perform at least twice at official DCI shows, making this our first tour! We will rehearse and perform like a drum corps, but for a shorter timeframe (about three weeks).
WHO CAN JOIN ZEPHYRUS DRUM & BUGLE CORPS?
Performers (Brass, Percussion, color guard) that have at least one season of marching band experience. Age 15-22.
DO I HAVE TO AUDITION FOR ZEPHYRUS 2020?
Yes. We have already completed our January 4th audition, but you can still join! We have another camp on April 11th for Brass and Percussion, as well as May 2nd for guard. To attend the Brass and Percussion camp, please submit a video audition. This year we have received a big increase in interest, so bring your A-Game! There may be twenty people competing for membership in a section with only five spots.
WHAT IF I’M NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE AUDITION?
Video auditions are now being accepted! Simply register for a video audition online and we’ll provide you with an evaluation. If our instructors believe you’ve got what it takes, you’ll get an invitation to join!
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
WHAT IS TOUR LIKE?
Drum corps is not an easy activity. It requires dedication and endurance. This year we will be operating like any other corps in DCI when it comes to the day-to-day grind. Members will sleep on air mattresses, wake up early, eat breakfast, rehearse, eat lunch, rehearse, eat dinner, rehearse, eat a snack, clean up and go to bed. Then we all wake up and do it again! Once Spring arrives and we have our schedule for the summer, we will be able to announce our performance “tour” which we expect to include at least two performances alongside the best drum corps in the world at official DCI shows. Until we have completed arrangements with DCI, this time period is under development.
